Explore the island on a half day West coast tour that combines all aspect of Polynesia in one compact tour. The drive south takes us along the delightful coast road surrounded by turquoise colored lagoon waters and dramatic volcanic scenery covered in luscious vegetation, waterfalls and geographical wonders. On the road side enjoy the sights of local fishermen selling their daily catch or tradesman selling their fruits and local produce.
The ancient religious site, the Marae of Arahurahu set against a picturesque backdrop provides a real insight into ancient Polynesian culture, lifestyle and values. Marvel at the stunning fern Caves of Maraa, a local wonder, where the artist Paul Gauguin swam in the cool fresh waters with the local population.
The botanical garden of Vaipahi with its picturesque waterfall, gets us up close to the vegetation to wonder at it’s size and beauty. On a spectacular black volcanic sandy beach enjoy watching the surfers as they ride the waves right up on the shoreline, as we have an opportunity to wonder along the beach and take photographs of the spectacular scenery.
A stop at one of the prettiest churches on the island and visit the local town hall built in traditional colonial style allows us to encounter the local population as they get on with their daily lives. If the river eels are game, feeding them over the bridge in Paea is fun.

This fascinating tour of the north east coast of Tahiti Nui takes us to the most historicaly rich corner of Tahiti Nui and encompasses all that the island has to offer. Natural sites, breathtaking coastal and volcanic scenery, view points and local encounters are just a few of this tour’s spectacular features. The east coast is often referred to as the Jurassic coast and will interest anyone who likes history and natural beauty. The dramatic volcanic coastal scenery of the east coast is in direct contrast to the classic lagoon and reef scenery of th western coast.
It is from the bay of Matavai that Tahiti was discovered by captain Wallis. On the beach, walk in the footsteps of Captains Cook, Bougainville and Bligh, the mutineers of HMS Bounty, the first protestant missionaries and more recently Marlon Brando. The 1962 version of Mutiny on the Bounty was filmed from this bay. The light house and monuments to the Bounty and Cooks mission to observe the transiting of Venus provide a perfect opportunity to learn about the how the first europeans presence in Polynesia was felt by the natives of the day and its repercussions since.
The view pont of tahara or Squirnish Hill, as it was named by Captain Wallis, provides a breathtaking view of Papeete with spectacular views of Moorea in the distance.
The highlight of the tour is the wonderfull waterfall of Vaimahuta in the Tiare valley, as well as our blow hole on the coast with stunning views down the east coast of Tahiti Nui.
